Getting your HOTBIN started in autumn and winter

Composting provides you with rich organic matter that vastly improves the quality of your garden soil. Whether you sprinkle compost on the surface of the soil or work it in, your plants, vegetables and your entire garden will all benefit from the additional feed.

Your HOTBIN will take your home and garden green waste and will produce compost all year round! Start composting in the autumn and winter and have nutrient rich compost ready to use in Spring.

Even if you are just starting your HOTBIN in the coldest months, you can kick-start the process with the HOTBIN equivalent of a hot water bottle. This ensures the process continues when temperatures drop significantly. A little care in the harshest weather makes a big difference.

Whether you are just starting with HOTBIN or the temperature inside your bin has dropped to less than 15°C, you can kick-start your HOTBIN to 60°C in the cold season by using the kick-start bottle.

This video (click here to watch the video) is an excellent step by step of how to use the kick-start bottle.

The key to composting in the cold months is that HOTBIN needs food, warmth and attention to get the job done and recycle your waste into great garden compost.  Although there is far less garden waste in winter there is plenty of food waste from the kitchen. Fewer trips to recycling and more great composted food for the garden.  So remember, look after your HOTBIN so it can look after your garden, recycling food into great compost.
