HOTBIN & the Schweizer Garten Magazine

The Schweizer Garten magazine, one of the oldest gardening magazines in Switzerland, contacted us to ask if we would like to participate in an independent review of composters for their March 2021 issue. Mr. Jeremias Lütold, a journalist and gardener, trialled a few composters and below is his review of HOTBIN and its performance. Naturally we are pleased that he found the HOTBIN to be easy to use, effective and produces great compost and a liquid fertiliser.

We have translated his original German-language article into English.

HOTBIN –  The hot composter

A lightweight and slim hot composter, already assembled and ready for use at hotbin.ch

An interesting feature of this model is the effect of the recyclable and lightweight material which insulates the heat generated by bacteria. The composting process is accelerated considerably. In addition, the HOTBIN also takes kitchen waste, including meat and fish scraps. After just 2 months, humus can be removed through the bottom flap. The lid is equipped with a filter [to avoid bad odors] and a thermometer [to show the temperature inside the bin].  The aerobic composting system reaches temperatures of between 40 and 60 ºC and converts green waste and kitchen scraps from 1 to 2 people. The experience has shown that the HOTBIN is also suitable for larger households. With a capacity of 200 litres, there is a certain amount of leeway in this respect.

If you want a smaller size, you can also order a mini-version of 100 litres.

Conclusion: The recyclability of cooked food scraps is certainly a big plus with this composter. It also takes lawn clippings and smaller branches and twigs.

HOTBIN Mini is on sale for the entire month of March 2021.  Click here to find out more.
